Happy Birthday Owen.

We had Owen's birthday celebration at Sunny Hollow today. It starts with Owen bringing a photo from each year of his life in to school. He lays them out in chronological order and shows his classmates and answers their questions about them. Then, at 11:00, Jeremy, Walter and I were invited to the celebration where we shared stories from each year of his life while he walked in a circle carrying a globe in his hands. When it is all over, he dismisses each child by name and they come and shake his hand or give him a hug before leaving the classroom to go play outside. They also all said "Happy Birthday Owen" some with zest and some quite shyly. It was so cute.
After all the children left, we had an additional half hour in the classroom to ourselves. Owen proudly showed us around and showed us how to do some of the work he has been doing lately, including the map of Africa and his number book.
After school, we went out for lunch and then made our way to the pediatrician's office for Owen's 5 year appointment. We are lucky to have two healthy boys. Owen was right in the middle percentage-wise for both weight and height.

Tonight my mom watched the boys while Jer and I went out on a date...shopping for tomorrow's birthday party followed by yummy appetizers and drinks at a new restaurant.

Kai was sad to miss the big celebration at school. He said more than once, but today is Owen's celebration day. We figured it was better though not to give Owen a birthday gift of a terrible cold!!
